What it is

The Roman general Lucullus, famous for his banquets, brought the cherry tree to Rome from Kerasus on the Black Sea — the town that gave the fruit its name in half of Europe’s languages. Some victories are edible.

Cherries and almond are cousins — a drop of almond or a kernel left in the jar makes cherry desserts taste more of themselves.
