What it is

The cultivated blueberry is barely a century old — Elizabeth White and Frederick Coville produced the first crop in New Jersey in 1916, after she paid local pickers to find the largest wild bushes in the pine barrens.

In the kitchen

Toss them in flour before folding into a batter. Naked, they sink straight to the bottom of the tin.
